Protect Your Garden Before Winter

Meet ThermaRoot™, a plant-derived tablet designed to complement your winter garden-care routine.
Plant-derived. Sea-derived. Made in the USA.
Formulated by a retired soil scientist to protect roots through the coldest nights without harming your soil.
Winter Kills From the Bottom Up
✕Problem 1: Winter Kills From the Bottom Up
Frost damage you see in spring can start underground. When soil water freezes, ice formation can pull moisture away from root cells and cause damaging dehydration. Fine roots are particularly vulnerable to freezing conditions.
✕Problem 2: Your Plants May Survive Above Ground but Lose Their Roots
Roots are often less cold-hardy than branches. Many plants that survive a cold snap above ground can still experience root damage when soil temperatures fall sufficiently low.
✕Problem 3: Winter Damage Can Be Difficult to Reverse
Once sensitive roots suffer serious freezing damage, recovery can be difficult. For gardeners who have spent months or years nurturing roses, blueberries, fruit trees, and perennials, one severe winter can undo a significant investment of time and effort.

By the Time You See Winter Damage, It May Already Be Too Late.
The most frustrating thing about winter plant damage? You don't always see it happening.
While your plants may look perfectly fine above ground, freezing temperatures can already be affecting their delicate root systems beneath the soil.
And once those roots suffer serious cold damage, bringing the plant back may be difficult — or impossible.
That's why experienced gardeners prepare their plants before freezing conditions arrive instead of waiting for visible signs of damage.
Because protecting healthy roots is easier than trying to rescue damaged ones.

Help Your Garden Face Winter With Greater Confidence
Your plants stay strong and healthy even under adverse winter conditions.

Without Additional Root Protection: A plant exposed to damaging root-zone freezing conditions may experience root injury, poor spring regrowth, or winter loss.
With ThermaRoot™ as Part of a Winter Protection Routine: ThermaRoot™ is designed to support a more protective root-zone environment when used with conventional winter care.
Simple Winter Preparation in Just a Few Steps
ThermaRoot™ is designed to fit into your existing gardening routine.
1Step 1
Press the recommended number of tablets approximately 2 inches into the soil near the root zone.
2Step 2
Water lightly to activate.
3Step 3
Add a 3–4 inch mulch collar using straw, shredded leaves, or bark, keeping mulch away from direct contact with trunks and crowns.
4Step 4
Follow the recommended reapplication schedule through the coldest periods.
Dual-Action Root Defense

Action 1: Crystal Shield Technology
As the tablet dissolves, its plant-derived ingredients are intended to interact with moisture around the root zone. The proposed formulation combines trehalose, glycine betaine, and plant antifreeze protein extract, ingredients associated with cold-stress responses or ice interactions in certain biological systems. The intended purpose is to influence ice formation around sensitive roots. Product-level effectiveness, including any reduction in ice crystal growth or soil freezing point, requires experimental verification.

Action 2: Thermal Slowdown
A plant-based phase-change wax is incorporated into each tablet. Phase-change materials can absorb or release latent heat during temperature transitions. The proposed mechanism is to release stored thermal energy as the material solidifies, potentially slowing cooling in its immediate surroundings. The actual soil-temperature effect and duration for this tablet formulation require controlled measurement.

Works With Your Mulch
Preferably apply ThermaRoot™ under a 3–4 inch mulch collar. Mulch helps moderate soil temperature fluctuations and reduce rapid heat loss. ThermaRoot™ is designed to be used alongside this established winter-protection method.

The Story Behind ThermaRoot™
Dr. Walter Henshaw spent 34 years studying soil and advising fruit growers across the Great Lakes region. After retiring to a small property in western New York (Zone 5b), he finally planted the orchard he'd always wanted.
The first hard winter killed 7 of his 12 young trees.
“I knew exactly what had happened below the surface,” Walter says. “Ice crystals formed around the fine roots and tore them apart, and the soil temperature crashed overnight. Everything on the market either did nothing or relied on salts I'd spent my career warning people about.”
He turned to how nature solves the problem. Cold-hardy plants, insects, and arctic fish survive freezing conditions through a variety of physiological adaptations, including mechanisms affecting ice formation and cellular stress.
Walter spent three winters testing plant-based ingredients inspired by these natural processes.
The result is ThermaRoot™.
I had one rule: if I wouldn't put it in my own soil, it doesn't go in the tablet.

The formulation combines plant-derived ingredients selected for their potential roles in cold-stress responses and ice interactions. Whether the finished tablet prevents ice formation or reduces root-zone freezing has not yet been established by the information provided.
ThermaRoot™ does not generate heat through combustion or an electrical reaction. Its proposed phase-change component is intended to release previously stored thermal energy as it solidifies. The magnitude and duration of any measurable soil-warming effect require validation.
The formula contains plant-derived and other organic-origin ingredients, but that alone does not establish safety if swallowed or handled. Keep the product out of reach of children and pets until appropriate safety testing and labeling are available.
Product certification is described as in progress. Ingredient eligibility and finished-product certification should be confirmed with the relevant certification body before making organic certification claims.
A box contains 10 tablets. The number of applications depends on plant size, dosage, and reapplication frequency. The proposed schedule recommends reapplication every 10 days during the coldest periods, subject to validation.
